Recreational vs commercial drone use in Cameroon
Cameroon does not differentiate much commercial and recreational drone uses. Both are subject to restrictions and code of conduct. Additionally, depending on the weight of your drone, different rules will apply.

Can I bring my drone to Cameroon?
šØ Currently, you will need an authorisation to bring your drone in Cameroon.
šØ Be aware of the airline you purchase to travel as some main ones will only accept your drone on-board if its batteries are detached & placed in a firecase during travel time. Most airlines will have a battery voltage limit based on the recommendation of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). You can find more info about a specific airline here.

Where can I fly my drone in Cameroon?

š¦ National parks might be protected flight areas in Cameroon and you might need to seek specific permission prior taking off in these places.
š” Smart! Pack some spare drone batteries, you never know how close is the next power plug overseas. Also make sure you have a travel adaptor for Cameroon.
Recreational & Commercial Drone use in Cameroon
Recreational drone use is not permitted in Cameroon unless you apply for a permit. For commercial flights with a business purpose, you will need to obtain a permission ahead of your arrival in the country.
Additionally, all drone flights undertaken must follow the below rules and fly:
at a maximum altitude of 120 m above the ground.
away from urban areas or large crowds & respect individuals' privacy.
at least 5.5 km away from all airports and heliports.
away from areas where its use could interfere with police or first responders.
during the day & within your sight at all times at maximum of 300 m from the pilot.
only one drone at the time.
at least 15 m away from any other person, building, animal or vehicle.
do not fly your drone in sensitive areas including government or military facilities.
avoid to operate drones at resorts without prior permission ahead.
if your drone is fitted with a camera, you must respect individual's privacy at all times.
How to obtain a permit to fly my drone over Cameroon?
To obtain it, you must complete this form which will ask you basic questions about yourself and your flight details.
You will need to include information such as:
the proof of your job need and the contact details of your client based in Cameroon.
a description of your flight's details including its coordinates and business purpose.
the details of your drone and its specs as well as any accessories needed.
a detailed plan in case you loose control of your drone.
the contact details of the pilots and anyone involved in the operation.
a copy of your insurance
š Any request must be sent the the Cameroon Civil Aviation Authority at least 30 days prior the flight via email: contact@ccaa.aero or dsa@ccaa.aero
What do I risk for flying a drone illegally in Cameroon?
šØ The amount & scope of the fine will depend on the nature & severity of your infraction. The judges will also evaluate if you intentionally committed the infraction &/or if you had any commercial purpose during your flight.
